An Austrian businessman caught at Norwich Airport trying to smuggle cocaine with a street value of more than £235,000 was jailed for 7½ years yesterday.
Johann Jacum, 50, from Gleisdorf was caught with more than 3kg of cocaine hidden in the lining of his briefcase at the airport in July, Norwich Crown Court heard. He had brought the drug from Nairobi and had flown to Norwich Airport via Amsterdam.
Jacum told customs officers that he was to be paid $2,500 for bringing the drugs into Norfolk. He claimed that he had needed the cash to keep his haulage business afloat.
Jailing him for 7½ years, Recorder Guy Ayers told him: 'You are an intelligent man and knew what you were getting involved in and the risks you were taking.'
