Lapland flight cancelled after runway problems
19.12.11
Icy weather was blamed for the cancellation of a flight from Norwich Airport to visit Father Christmas in Lapland yesterday. The flight from to Enontekio in Finland had been due to leave at 07:30. Disappointed children and their parents were only told of the cancellation in the departure lounge, after they had already checked-in by operator Transun.
After snow, rain then freezing temperatures on Saturday night, it took longer than expected for the airport to reopen the runway yesterday. Karen Park from Norfolk Deaf Children's Society had planned to take 9 deaf children and their families for a ‘magical day out’. She told BBC News: ‘If there had been extreme weather conditions I could understand, but cancelling over a bit of frost is just ridiculous. We now have 9 extremely upset children who won't be getting to visit Father Christmas.’
