Norwich airport enjoys growth
18.03.07
Norwich Airport was one of the country's fastest growing airports last year, figures released by the Civil Aviation Authority reveal. It had the fourth highest rise in passengers outside the of the London airports.
Norwich celebrated in 2005, when more than half a million people passed through the terminal for the first time, but last year this had shot up by 200,000 to 746,716, the CAA figures reveal. The number of 'aircraft movements' - planes flying in and out of the airport - was also up by 24% in the year to 21,350.
Richard Jenner, Norwich Airport Managing Director, said: 'It's mainly down to the impact of the first full year of Flybe. This year we think passenger numbers will be about 800,000. The year after we should see a bigger increase when Flybe gets all its aircraft on-stream.'
