Passenger numbers jump in August
16.09.06
Passenger numbers at Norwich Airport almost doubled in August compared with the same period last year. A record-breaking 89,900 people travelled from the airport during the month, an increase of 42% on passenger numbers in August 2005.
The encouraging figures came despite August being a traditionally quiet month for business travel and the terror alert which led to massive delays at airports across the country. The airport said the increases came as a result of new routes, with Norwich tourism bosses saying the new UK destinations were bringing a big boost to the county's economy.
Louise Wilkinson, of Norwich Airport said: 'We will soon be announcing our winter 2006 and summer 2007 programmes which will see the introduction of even more new services. Clearly it is demand from local people who wish to travel from the airport that is supporting our continued growth.'
