Passengers down over 10%

Passenger numbers are down by over 10% at Norwich Airport, a fall of almost 100,000 in the last 12 months, the Evening News reports. Figures released to the newspaper show that during the last financial year 690,000 used the airport compared to 777,000 the 12 months before - a drop of 10.4%. This is the only time passenger numbers have fallen year on year in more than 15 years.
The news follows a torrid 12 months for the airport, which has been embroiled in a bitter dispute with its main airline, Flybe. The regional budget airline axed flights after the introduction of a £3 developments fee by the airport. Now Norwich Airport's managing director, Richard Jenner, has blamed the fall on Flybe's decision to axe its winter getaway flights to Malaga and Alicante for the fall in passengers.
While Mr Jenner told the newspaper that he was disappointed about the drop, but he said the new routes to Spain recently announced, coupled with upcoming announcements of even more new routes, should see the figures rise again next year.
