Airport boss resigns

Norwich Airport is looking for a new boss after managing director Elliott Summers resigned to spend more time with his family, EDP reports. Mr Summers, who embarked on a cost-cutting strategy aimed at attracting new businesses and shifting away from an over reliance on low-cost operators when he took over the job in January 2009, resigned on Tuesday. The hunt for his replacement has launched and for the meantime Andrew Bell, group finance director at Omniport, the airport's parent company, has taken over as interim managing director.
Mr Summers said his key achievements included implementing airport-wide safety arrangements including a new fire training ground and stripping £1.4m of cost out of the business. But last month it emerged that passengers had slumped by 30 percent to 404,000, while revenues were down by £2.4m. In November a survey of 84 important business figures warned that travellers eager to fly from Norwich had been put off by expensive fares and an absence of routes. Airport bosses were accused of using a controversial terminal tax to boost profits instead of offering new routes.
