New deal over Norwich Airport operating hours
09.09.06
A gentleman's agreement between Norwich Airport bosses and council leaders over night flying and the airport's hours of operation is set to be renegotiated, the Norwich Evening News has reported. Unlike the planning conditions for the airport, which are enforceable by the city council, the letter of agreement is completely voluntary.
In July 1998, a letter detailing the agreement was signed between Norwich Airport, Norwich City Council and Broadland District Council to extend controls over late night flights between 23:00 and 06:00. But with changes to the operation of the airport, including the opening of the terminal at 04:30 to accommodate passengers for the airport's earliest flights, both the airport and the councils feel that this agreement needs to be changed.
At a meeting of the city council's planning committee it was agreed that the Norwich Airport Joint Advisory Committee be involved in preparing a revised agreement.
