Airport database hacked
03.12.11
A hacker using the name ‘Kahuna’ broke into the systems of the Norwich Airport, harvested and the leaked personal information contained in their job applications' database, according to website helpnetsecurity. Names, addresses, email addresses and telephone numbers of more than 2000 people who have applied for a job at the airport, as well as names, usernames and passwords of the administrators of the norwichairport.co.uk website were posted on Pastebin on Thursday.
The hacker posted a message to the UK Government saying: ‘Your sites that should be the most secure are still just as flawed as all the rest. If you think there is any information we cannot obtain you are wrong. The people can get everything, as this goes to show. Nothing is protected from prying eyes. Continue to allow the Occupy Protestors to demonstrate peacefully.’
The hacker explained that he was reading about a vulnerability that affected a website software and he found out that the airport site was affected. He said: ‘I realised that they would fix it as soon as possible if I released all the info, so I dropped it on Pastebin and sent out a tweet.'
The airport did not comment on the news. From the message to the 'UK Government' we would guess that the hacker is not from the UK, and therefore does not realise that the airport is privately owned and operated. However, this does not make the security lapse any less serious.
